    CONs to consider

When you join the military, especially the Marine Corps, they will expect you to be in tip-top shape, having spent a small fortune getting you through Boot Camp (Marines don't have Basic). Throughout however many years you plan to do, your body will suffer from the constant damage and injuries you will sustain. Marine Corps train of thought is, if you aren't deployable, you aren't fit to stay in. For example, get diagnosed with sleep apnea or bad back, you won't be reenlisting, if that was your plan. The VA will insist that whatever ailment you have was a result of something that happened to you BEFORE you joined. If you exit the Marines, VA will insist it happened in the time after you exited the service.

So if you plan to stay in, you need enough of a medical history that it is documented without getting you disqualified or medically separated. The other services will let you get away with it to a point, but I don't have enough information on the various services to make any qualified statements. But I can say the Air Force let an airman (not sure of exact rank) get out and they got 100% VA disability for being FAT.
